CHESS : COMMUNITY : COMPETITION

Summer 2022 | Hello parents, guardians, and chess players! This summer Her Coaches is offering free, on-line chess instruction to members of Her Move Next, and the Her League community. These virtual lessons will take place over Zoom on Thursdays from 5:00pm to 6:00pm, though the time is not yet fully confirmed (pending participant feedback). There will be 25 minutes of instruction, a five minute break, then another 25 minutes of instruction, followed by a five minute Q&A recap at the end. For players unable to attend these free weekly sessions, please indicate in the linked form below.

To ensure players can get the coaching they need based on their skill level, Her Coaches’ instructors are planning to create two groups, one beginner group and one advanced group. Although they hope to create at least three separate groups in the future, given enough participants. These groups will be determined by USCF/FIDE online and/or OTB (over the board) ratings, once they determine the experience level of participants who sign up.

Players can check their USCF rating on https://new.uschess.org by going to rating, then rating player look up, followed by typing in their name and state. Player IDs can also be found there.  If they have never played in any online and/or OTB matches, or if they are unrated, please specify that in the register form linked below. Players with FIDE ratings (rated games typically played outside the USA), can see them at https://ratings.fide.com/ by searching the database and typing in the respective player's name. Then select the player to see their rating and FIDE ID.

Players in Her Coaches’ classes will get weekly puzzles based on what they have learned in their respective weekly lessons; there will be more information shared after joining the program. It is also recommended that players compete weekly in as many 15 minute games on ChessKid as possible, play in Her League events, and other chess tournaments. Her Coaches suggest a minimum of 1 practice game per day if possible, but even a couple matches per week is okay too. Her Coaches want to ensure players practice their chess skills in between classes.
