Her League: We welcome you to Season 4 of Her League, for online Chess, Community, and Competition. Sponsored by the HerMoveNext Foundation, Inc, Her League offers scholastic K-12 girls from beginners to advanced chess players a safe virtual opportunity to play, coach, emcee, and TD monthly in a free, fun, and welcoming community of peers. Her League 1 launched online in 2021 on International Women’s Day, Monday, March 8, 2021. Up next is Her League 38, our FIRST 2024 Spring Season (Q2-2024) event, on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 5:30 PM EST to 8:30 PM EST. Note Her League monthly online-quick US Chess rated game nights are typically held on the first or second non-holiday Friday of every month. HER League | INFO

Chess Teams: Her League coaches and TDs will be assisting participants signing in to our online chess league using the Zoom video conferencing platform. Upon signing on to a monthly game night match, Her League places all participants on one of four teams before the start of Quad section tournament action. Note, the final section may use Swiss pairings if number of entries is not a multiple of 4.

Once on a team, chess players are ranked according to their US Chess Ratings, typically their current or live Quick Online US Chess Ratings. Prior to play, all participants must be current members of the US Chess Federation (Join US Chess). Player rankings determine which Quad tournament section players will be entering to represent their team. A set of four chess players is referred to as a Quad that participants will be competing against. Quad tournaments consist of four chess players of similar abilities playing individual games of chess against each of the other three players.

All players compete in a total of three 15 minute games (0 second delay), and the player with the most points is the Quad winner. Should a Quad section result in a tie, the Quad winner will be determined by the Her League platform tiebreak algorithm. If a sole winner can not be determined by the platform algorithm, then player faceoff results may be considered by the Tournament Director. If player faceoff results do not yield one winner then total team points may be considered to break the tie by the Tournament Director. Alternately a Tournament Director may decide to award multiple players Quad co-winners should a tie result.

Team results are a crucial component to Her League competitive play. Each Quad section winner contributes their total Quad Tournament win to their team. The team with the most Quad winners will be the resulting winner used for league scoring purposes. Players on the winning team receive 6 bonus points each. For Her League scoring purposes, there can be multiple teams tied for first place. For awarding a team prize, the highest accumulated team score, totaling all team member Quad scoring contributions, will be used to calculate a winning team. For team tie-breaks, number of Quad sections wins may be used.

Her League is keeping score. Her League will be tallying each player’s individual point totals and team bonus points for an accumulated grand total per season and and added to the per annum yearly total. Her League recently completed the 2024 Spring Season (Q1-2024) event dates for January, February, and March. Players accumulate 8 points for each win and/or bye (only one full bye scored per event), 6 points for each Quad and/or Team win, 4 points for each draw and 1/2 Byes, 2 points per loss played, and 0 points for forfeits. Tournament awards and recognition, season league awards and recognition, and annual awards and recognition for individual accomplishment and team achievement will be announced respectively by Her League with support from sponsors.

2024 SPRING season (Q2-2024) | Her League 38

We invite the chessgirl community to join the Her League 38 Event for our FIRST Spring Season (Q2-2024) event on Friday, April 19, 2024, from 5:30 PM EST to 8:30 PM EST to play chess online. Her League game nights consist of 3 rounds of chess (time control of 15 minutes per side with 0 second delay) with coach mentors reviewing games between rounds. Depending on participation, players will be placed into teams and sorted into ranked quads. The Her League matches have been purposefully designed to inspire girls on all skill levels, from beginners to advanced players. By including a Zoom room component, guided by our HerMoveNext Coaches and TDs, we endeavor to create an atmosphere that promotes camaraderie and mutual support.

Our game night matches were directly inspired by the HerMoveNext Quad-Team OTB (Over-The-Board) Tournaments and our eponymous award winning short film documentary, Her Move Next. We welcome all chessgirls to our events. Please share details with others.

Event links will be emailed to participants the day of the match by 4:30 PM EST. Online technical support is being graciously provided by ICN. The main Zoom playing room will be open at 5:30 PM EST and we request all players to log in by 5:45 PM EST, prior to the start of the match. All players must be visible from main Zoom playing room during game play. At 6:00 PM EST participants will be sorted into quad tournaments. Prior to the start of the match and between rounds we welcome all players to join their respective teams and coaches in breakout rooms.

Registration:
Free registration to join Her League will be ongoing. To receive proper notice to participate in a game night match, please register with Her League on HerMoveNext.com 24 hours in advance (registrations are accepted through 1:00 PM EST on game day).

Rating:
This is a US Chess Online-Quick (Rapid) Rated event. US Chess Online-Quick (Rapid) Ratings are used for sorting players into teams and placing participants into quad tournament sections to be paired with appropriately rated opponents. If a player does not have a US Chess Online-Quick (Rapid) Rating but has obtained a US Chess Quick (Rapid) Rating or Regular Rating, either may be used depending which is the most current. If a player has no US Chess rating, but has another chess federation rating, including a FIDE chess Rapid and/or Standard rating, the most current rating will be used for pairing purposes. If a player has no chess rating (beginner), then the player will be considered unrated for pairing purposes.
